THEFT

Theft is a broad, catch-all term proscribed in Florida Statutes § 812.014.  Theft is defined as intentionally obtaining or using, or attempting to obtain or use the property of another, without their consent, with the intention of either permanently OR temporarily depriving the person of a right or benefit of the property.

Theft includes larceny, burglary, embezzlement, looting, and other similar crimes.  It is important to note that even if someone takes something with the intention of later returning it, that person has still committed the offense of theft.
